What Happens During a Workplace Evacuation Drill

Evacuation drills are a requirement under AS 3745:2010 and help workplaces test their emergency procedures, warden readiness and overall response capability.

Before the Drill

The Emergency Control Organisation reviews procedures, confirms roles, checks evacuation routes, verifies assembly areas and identifies support needs.

When the Alarm Sounds

Staff must stop work, follow warden instructions, use the nearest exit and move calmly to the assembly area. Wardens complete area checks, provide direction, assist vulnerable individuals and report to the Chief Warden.

At the Assembly Area

Wardens take headcounts, report missing persons and identify issues such as delayed evacuations or blocked exits.

Post Drill Review

Leaders assess evacuation time, staff behaviour, communication effectiveness and warden performance. Findings must feed into improvements to the Emergency Management Plan.
